One More Candle (OMC) is a registered charity which started four years ago in Winnipeg. OMC is committed to remembering each of the 1.5 million children murdered in the Shoah.

Who can grasp 1.5 million children’s lives lost to pure hatred? The horror of just one child’s murder is incomprehensible. Yet, it is relatable. Remembering each one of these precious lives is what this organization is about.

One More Candle gives individuals, families, bar/bat mitzvahs, and synagogues the opportunity to “adopt” the memory of a murdered Shoah child as their own. The majority of these children died along with their entire families. They have no one to remember they even existed.

One More Candle provides a name and all available information on each memory child adopted. Synagogues are provided with a name for each day minyan is said. To date, OMC has a growing group of synagogues across Canada and the USA who are remembering 365 children through daily minyans, or 52 children for weekly minyans. OMC  also has individuals all over the world who have accepted the mitzvah of remembering one or more OMC children by saying their names out loud, saying Kaddish, doing an act of kindness and just lighting One More Candle for them on the date of their death. All this is done free of charge.

One More Candle is very fortunate in being in partnership with B’nai Brith Canada. Through their joint efforts, every Jewish Dental Fraternity on four continents has adopted 11 children each, for a total of 1,881 souls who will not be forgotten. One More Candle also has been honoured and grateful for receiving Human Rights Initiative Grants from B’nai Brith in both 2018 and 2020.

Adopting a memory child is a very special mitzvah. The act of remembering, L’dor V’dor, generation to generation, helps keep these children’s memories alive.
