Despite the pandemic, 2021 proved to be a stellar year for Professor Michael Eskin. During that year he received the Order of Manitoba followed by his election as Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
In 2022, which marks his 54th year at the University of Manitoba, Michael was contacted by the Editor of the Chinese Journal of Science and Technology of Cereals, Oil, Foods that a joint paper published in the journal with Professor Liuping Fan of Jiangnan University, received an Outstanding Paper Award.
A month later he was contacted by the President of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), the preeminent society of food science in the world, that a jury of his peers had selected him as the 2022 IFT recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award in honor of Nicolas Appert. This award, which includes a bronze medal and a cheque, will be given at the Annual Meeting of IFT in Chicago. It honors an individual for consistent lifetime achievements and contributions in the field of food technology and the previous recipients include top food scientists from around the world. “This is a wonderful recognition by my peers of the global impact that my teaching, research, and writing has had in food science. I am truly honored,” Michael commented. “I am particularly grateful for the outstanding mentors that helped me along the way, but mostly to the support of my wonderful wife, Nella”.
