That's because Manitoba will benefit from a significant increase in allocation for the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) in 2023 as part of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada multi-year allocation plan. The MPNP is an immigration pathway for newcomers to come to Manitoba and in the past two years Manitoba has had about 6,200 allocations in total given to it from the Federal government
But Labour and Immigration Minister Jon Reyes explained to the Winnipeg Jewish Review that for 2023 " Manitoba’s allocation will increase to 9,500 nominations." (i.e. 9,500 new immigrants in total will be able to come to Manitoba under the program)
As Reyes noted, "We have a labour shortage in many fields," and "we need to do the best we can to attract the right individuals with the right skill set to come to Manitoba."
"We do draws for people to get accepted," and people are accepted "based on their skills. language requirements, family connections etc."
Reyes added, "Because of the increase number of allocations for the province of Manitoba, there is a greater chance for Israeli immigrants [along with other immigrants] to become Manitobans."
According to Reyes, the Manitoba government advocated strongly for this increase in allocations from the Federal government, which will enable Manitoba to further leverage immigration to grow Manitoba’s economy and meet labour market needs in critical sectors, including health care.
Reyes said there are 70 recommendations to improve the process of immigration such that new immigrants under the program can obtain gainful employment "in their respective fields."
As one of the critical recommendations in the Immigration Advisory Council’s report, the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program will be doing a specific sector based draw, in addition to the regular draw, biweekly to address labour market needs in Manitoba. Details are available at www.immigratemanitoba.com/notices/eoi-draw/.
Reyes added that he has worked with the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg regarding bringing new Jewish immigrants to Manitoba.
He added, "I am always willing to sit down with groups to find ways to improve and enhance Manitoba's Provincial Nominee Program."
