2023 has proven to be another stellar year for Michael Eskin, a Distinguished Professor at the University of Manitoba. In February he received the Canola Excellence Award from the Manitoba Canola Growers Association, and in May, he was the recipient of the American Oil Chemists’ Society’s very prestigious A.R. Baldwin Distinguished Service Award. Last month, the title Distinguished Professor was officially conferred on him at the University of Manitoba Convocation ceremony where the Governor General of Canada, the Right Honorable Mary Simon, received an Honorary Degree. Last week, he was officially notified that in July he would be inducted into the Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame for his contributions to the successful development of canola oil. This honor acknowledges individuals who have made a significant contribution to the welfare and improvement of Manitoba Agriculture and to better the way of life of farm families. Dr. Eskin’s work on canola oil not only helped to change the agricultural landscape of Canada, but canola now contributes over 22 billion dollars annually to the Canadian economy and employs over 250,000 people worldwide.
