Lori Binder, Head of School of Gray Acasdemy of Jewish Education announces:
I am thrilled to share that after the completion of our search process, Heather Micflikier, our current Student Support Services Coordinator, has been selected as our new Elementary School Principal. Heather is a dedicated educator and leader with 20 years of experience. Since joining Gray Academy in 2018, she has been a teacher, mentor and caring support for our students, staff and families.
Heather’s career began in the Winnipeg School Division, teaching in the classroom, as well as supporting and leading teams in the design and delivery of specialized learning strategies for all students. She has established herself as a champion of Elementary student learning, and her depth of experience working with children, colleagues, clinicians and parents makes her an excellent fit for this role.
Heather holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Winnipeg, majoring in English and History. She attended our founding schools Talmud Torah and Joseph Wolinsky Collegiate and is a proud parent of two children at Gray Academy.
In addition to day-to-day school operations, Heather will lead our Elementary programming, informed by Manitoba Education’s K to 12 Action Plan, CAIS standards and Gray Academy’s Mission, Vision and strategic goals as a Jewish community day school. She is deeply committed to ensuring every student has opportunities to thrive and grow within a safe, inclusive and authentic Jewish learning environment.
Heather will be collaborating extensively with faculty, staff and school leadership to keep the Gray Academy student experience and educational excellence at the forefront of everything we do at school. She will also be an exceptional support for parents, sharing her expertise in how children learn and develop throughout their Elementary learning journey, from Junior Kindergarten through Grade 6.
Heather will work with Joyce Kerr to ensure a smooth transition and will officially start as principal in mid-August. She will continue to support faculty and staff in Student Support Services across the school and will oversee the transition of her current role in the months ahead. Before school starts and in early fall, families will be invited to a meet-and-greet with Heather and the rest of our Leadership team.
Please join me in welcoming Heather to her new position within our school community.
