CHIEF RABBI OF THE COMMONWEALTH AT ADAS YESHURUN HERZLIA JUNE 2

May 7, 2024

Adas Yeshurun Herzlia’s 7th Annual Distinguished Lecturer series continues to offer relevant Jewish ideas and insights to our community. This year’s speaker is uniquely qualified to inspire our community to find hope in response to the horrors of October 7 and the ensuing war. Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis will join us at Adas Yeshurun Herzlia from his home in London via Zoom on Sunday, June 2nd at noon.

Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis was installed as 11th Chief Rabbi of the Commonwealth on September 1, 2013, at St John’s Wood Synagogue in London. The Chief Rabbi holds many positions of leadership, including Associate President of the Conference of European Rabbis and President of the London School of Jewish Studies. He is a frequent contributor to radio, television, and the press in Britain and around the world. As Chief Rabbi of Ireland, Chief Rabbi Mirvis represented the Jewish community to government, other faith communities, and the media.

He joined the UK Rabbinate in 1992 when he was appointed to the Western Marble Arch Synagogue in London. Most recently, as Senior Rabbi of Finchley Synagogue (Kinloss), he earned a reputation as one of the UK’s most respected community Rabbis. Under his leadership, the congregation transformed into a vibrant powerhouse of educational, social, cultural, and religious activity.

The Chief Rabbi speaks often about the Jewish principle of Achrayut (responsibility), which encompasses our responsibility to family, community, wider society, Israel, and all of humanity.

Chief Rabbi Mirvis encourages women to take advantage of Jewish educational opportunities and created the Maayan Program to harness the talents of Jewish women to become educators with expertise in women’s health.

He created the Ben Azzai Program as a yearlong social responsibility initiative that educates high calibre university students on international development, the refugee crisis, global public health, and climate change from a Jewish perspective. Students then become ambassadors for tackling these issues in their communities.

Adas Yeshurun Herzlia’s modern Orthodox congregation welcomes all members of our community to enjoy traditional synagogue services and holiday celebrations, provides community Kashrut and Eruv supervision, offers children’s, youth, and adult programming, and invites you to learn Torah with Rabbi Benarroch.

For more information on sponsorship opportunities for this outstanding event, or to purchase tickets please contact the synagogue office by calling 204 489 6262, or by email to [email protected]
