Ron East Screens Video of Oct 7 Attacks outside of Pro-Palestinian Encampment at U of W

by Rhonda Spivak, May 24,2024

On Sunday May 19, 2024  at 9:30 p.m. in the evening Ron East led a group of some 30 people made up of pro-Israel members of the Jewish and non-Jewish community in an innovative initiative in front of the University of Winnipeg pro-Palestinian encampment. East screened a video that was set up on a truck that was parked  in front of the University of Winnipeg pro-Palestinian encampment, which documented the horrific atrocities of the October 7 massacre perpetrated by Hamas and its willing accomplices from UNRWA and with some civilians from Gaza.

The hour-long video of the Oct 7 attacks was one that East and his teenage son Shai created from video clips they found from a number of sources, which captured Hamas's genocidal intent, and served to emphasize that  Hamas's atrocities were what was responsible for  instigating this war. On Univeristy encampments no one is calling out Hamas's genocidal behavior, nor are they calling for the freeing of Israeli women and children who still remain captive in Hamas tunnels. Jewish Federation of Winnipeg President Jeff Lieberman attended the screening of the video.

The only incident that occurred was when a black truck, not surprisingly without a license plate, stopped beside the screening. The driver whose face was cowardly masked in a full keffiyeh, shouted abuse and made threatening gestures, But the driver failed to provoke a reaction from the pro-Israel demonstrators.

Unfortunately, according to one person who attended, fear kept the numbers of Israel supporters in attendance down to about 30. Campus security was present nearby, and there was no presence from the Winnipeg Police Service at all at this time.

There were a few from the encampment  who watched the screening and a few people walking by stopped momentarily.

East said he intends to show the video again outside the encampment. East has indicated on social media that this is an 18+ event as some of the images and videos are distressing.
