Winnipeg Jewish Theatre Call for Board Directors

January 23,2025

Canada’s premier professional Jewish theatre company, Winnipeg Jewish Theatre (WJT), is seeking dedicated individuals to join its Board of Directors.

Led by Artistic and Managing Director Dan Petrenko, WJT is the longest running Jewish Theatre in Canada (founded in 1987) and the only professional theatre in Canada that regularly commissions and develops new Jewish Canadian works. Our mandate is to present theatre of high artistic quality that broadly and honestly reflects the rich diversity of the Jewish experience; to cultivate the creation of new Canadian Jewish plays; to provide education in the theatre arts; and to promote an informed understanding of Jewish pasts and present. Over the past decade, WJT has prioritized the presentation of intersectional programming and building connections with other communities.  We are particularly committed to education initiatives at this time.

Role of The Board of Directors

WJT’s Board of Directors is a committed group of individuals with a passion for the performing arts and a deep commitment to the organization’s future health and growth. They are ambassadors for WJT and theatre in the greater community.

What would my role be as a Board Director?

You will directly contribute to the strategic development of the organization and ensure the sound and sustainable development of the company through good governance practices. Board members play an active role in WJT’s annual fundraising campaign and in fostering partnerships with community partners and local businesses.

We are particularly interested in recruiting new members who can contribute

with the following skills:

Financial
Human Resources
Fundraising
Knowledge of Theatre Community Marketing and Public Relations

The Board meets once every 6-8 weeks from September – June in Winnipeg. All Board members are expected to participate in an annual fundraiser, contribute an annual donation or volunteer at the shows, and attend WJT performances and events throughout the year.
